HOUSTON, June 24 (UPI) -- The Port of Houston Authority Tuesday acknowledged a lawsuit dealing with the proposed Bayport Container and Cruise Terminal.
Although environmentalists filed their lawsuit against the Army Corps of Engineers, the legal action is also related to a PHA project.
Officials said that based on a preliminary review, the lawsuit appears to contend the Corps' delineation of jurisdictional wetlands is improper and a supplemental environmental impact statement should be prepared on the Bayport project.
"This is another example of the delaying techniques that have been used by opponents of the proposed Bayport project for the last four years," said PHA Chairman Jim Edmonds. "We remain confident that the Corps' extensive work is entirely proper."
The Corps of Engineers released its final environmental impact statement on the proposed Bayport project May 16.The public comment period on that impact statement will close July 16.
