WASHINGTON, July 25 (UPI) -- Radio Flyer Inc. of Chicago Thursday recalled about 59,000 toy cars because a child can pull the horn from the steering wheel, turning the small parts inside into choking hazards.
The company received 19 reports of horns detaching from the steering wheel of Model 8 Roadsters but no reports of injuries, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The 26-inch long roadster has a red steel body and a red rubber horn on a black steering wheel. The riding toys made prior to January have the words "Radio Flyer" and the number "8" on both sides and have a horn symbol embossed on the red rubber horn.
The date of manufacture can be determined by a label on the bottom of the car that has the letters "MD" (manufacture date) followed by a month and year. The steering wheel was redesigned on Roadsters manufactured after January, and steering wheels with a star embossed on the horn are not part of the recall.
Model 8 Roadsters were sold at toy stores, discount stores, through catalogs and Web retailers nationwide between January 2001 and this month for about $70.
Consumers are advised not to let small children play with the toy cars and to contact Redwagons at 800-708-9246 or radioflyer.com to order a free replacement steering wheel.
In other recall actions:
Lauri Inc. of Phillips-Avon, Maine, recalled about 110,000 "Toddler Tote" toddler activity sets and about 11,000 "Familiar Things" toddler puzzles because small pieces can pose a choking hazard to young children.
The "Toddler Tote" travel activity sets have three animal puzzles and seven multi-colored stacker pegs packaged in a 9-inch square blue box with a rubber handle. The box has "Lauri" and LR-2116 on it.
"Familiar Things" puzzle sets are a boxed set of 12 two-piece puzzles of cutouts of fish, planes, boats and cars. "First Puzzles for Little One" and LR-2113 are written on the purple box.
The recalled toys and puzzles were sold by specialty stores, Web sites and school supply catalogs from January 1999 to July 2002. "Toddler Totes" sold for about $15 and "Familiar Things" were sold for around $20.
Consumers should take the toys away from children immediately and contact Lauri Inc. at 800-451-0520.
BRIO AB of Sweden and Small World Toys of Culver City, Calif., recalled 3,000 snail pull toys and Small World Toys recalled 880 sorter toys that pose choking hazards.
The CPSC said the eyes on the bright green, yellow and red wooden pull toy can detach. The snail is pulled along by a nylon string attached to the underside of the toy. A Plan Toys logo and the words "Made in Thailand" are stamped on the bottom.
The pull toys were sold nationwide from June 2001 through last month for about $15. Consumers can contact BRIO AB for a refund at 888-274-6869.
Small World Toys said the plastic windows on the wooden "Sort & See" sorting box can break, releasing the beads inside.
Each wooden box is filled with beads and has clear plastic top and cutouts on two sides that correspond with the shapes of blocks. "Ryan's Room" is printed on one side of the box.
The sorter sets were sold at toy stores nationwide from May through June for about $20.
Consumers should take the toys away from children and return them to the store purchased for a refund. Small World Toys can be contacted at 800 421 4153.
