Unemployment drops

WASHINGTON, March 8 (UPI) -- The Labor Department said Friday the nation's unemployment rate in February fell to its lowest level since October while the nation's economy created the largest amount of new jobs since February of last year. The government agency said the unemployment rate fell to 5.5 percent in February from 5.6 percent in January as the overall economy created 66,000 non-farm payroll jobs during the month. Economists on Wall Street were expecting no change in non-farm payrolls and were expecting the unemployment rate to rise to 5.8 percent from 5.6 percent.
