Howard Dicus: 1993...

Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin: “ … enough of blood and tears … enough!"

(Applause)

President George H. W. Bush: “In Somalia the young Marine, eyes filled with tears, holding the fragile arm of an emaciated child.”

Jeff Berliner: “ … in the middle of the tower that rises from this edifice on the Moskva River. Black smoke has been rising from the building; flames are often visible from the windows.”

Congressman Harold Volkmer: “And never have I seen the extent of flooding and damage which is occurring all along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers.”

Director William Sessions: “As we entered the bomb factory, the five subjects were actually mixing the witch's brew.”

David Koresh: “ … they do not understand what we believe. They started firing at me.”

Saddam Hussein: “Tonight, they came back.”

President Bill Clinton: “I, William Jefferson Clinton, do solemnly swear … ”

Chief Justice William Rehnquist: “ … that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of United States.”

Howard Dicus: It was the year Middle East warriors shook hands in peace while the UN authorized bombing; the year the president of Russia suspended personal freedoms to save democracy; the year an abortionist was shot dead by a man who believed in the sanctity of human life; the year Hubble found its eyesight, but the Mars probe lost its way.

I'm Howard Dicus. This is the Year in Review from UPI.
