Howard Dicus: 1992 was a stormy year in the US.

Jacqueline Menendez: “We’ve identified about 63,000 homes that were destroyed by Hurricane Andrew.”

Howard Dicus: Miami official, Jacqueline Menendez

Jacqueline Menendez: “That’s left 200,000-250,000 people homeless.

Elaina Theuriau: "We’ve got downtown lines all over the place.”

Howard Dicus: Reporter Elaina Theuriau.

Elaina Theuriau: “Palm trees, huge trees literally uprooted.”

Howard Dicus: Florida Governor, Lawton Chiles said even rescuers were victims.

Lawton M. Chiles, Jr.: “120 of the police officers that are working here have lost their homes.”

Howard Dicus: Hurricane Andrew raked across Florida, regathered strength in the gulf and slammed into Morgan City Louisiana where Cedric LaFleur is the Mayor.

Cedric LaFleur: “I have never seen a Hurricane in our area do this kind of damage.”

Howard Dicus: Folks were still cleaning up from Hurricane Andrew when Hurricane Iniki tore into Kaua`i western most main island of Hawaii.

Rodney Sanchez: “The majority of the island has been devastated.”

Howard Dicus: Rodney Sanchez, a DJ on Kaua`i.

Rodney Sanchez: “To be able to look up at one point and actually physically see the eye of the storm up above, it was scary.”
