Nick Charles: 1980 was a year in which Americans prayed for the release of the hostages taken during the seize of the US Embassy in Tehran, Iran in November of 1979. Their hopes were raised and dashed time and time again, as diplomatic efforts and the rescue mission failed. This and the faltering American Economy led to the defeat of incumbent President Jimmy Carter and the election of former California Governor Ronald Reagan. A labor upheaval in Poland that brought the communist government there to its knees and the indictment of several congressmen in what was to be called the Abscam scandal.

I am Nick Charles, we will take a look at 1980 In Review on Recap 80 after this message.
