Announcer: 1971 was a year of changes, changes that may have set the course for the reminder of the decade; changes: war in Pakistan, Red China and the United Nations.

Unknown Speaker: "...In favor 76, opposed 35, abstention 17. The Resolution adopted. The Government of People's Republic of China will be notified accordingly."

Announcer: Changes: Great Britain and the common market, economy in the United States.

President Richard M. Nixon: "I am today ordering a freeze on all prices and wages throughout the United States for a period of 90 days."

Announcer: Changes--a vote for 18-year-old Americans, a politician and his party.

Mayor John Lindsay: "This morning at Gracie Mansion, Mrs. Lindsay and I enrolled in the Democratic Party."

Announcer: And where change wasn't made, it was demanded: Attica and Rahway Prisons.

Unknown Speaker: "Why? Because we have 35 lives, not hostages. A moment's hesitation will cost you their lives. Don't play with us."

Announcer: And so it was in 1971, a year of changes.
