Alleged supremacist shot to death

RACINE, Wis., Oct. 1 -- An alleged white supremacist was shot and killed early Saturday morning after what police say was a racially motivated argument at a convenience store. Joe L. Rowan, 22, of Tom's River, N.J., had attended a rock concert sponsored by a white supremacy group Friday evening, investigators said.

Racine police said Rowan was a member of the group. While leaving Racine after the concert, Rowan and a group of his friends stopped at the Starvin Marvins convenience store. Police said Rowan and his friends began arguing with some black customers in the store. Several gunshots were fired, police said, one of them striking Rowan in the side. Police said they arrested a suspect Saturday morning in connection with the incident, but the suspect had not been officially charged by the district attorney.
