Dale W. Phillips, 34, a flight surgeon from Pell City, Ala., were killed Wednesday when the rotor of their Cobra gunship apparently broke in flight and the craft plunged onto the tarmac at Montgomery Airfield.

Three Marine officers and an Army captain died late Tuesday night when two Cobras collided during a night live-fire training mission about 20 miles from the Twentynine Palms Air Ground Combat Center, about 75 miles northeast of San Diego.

Both crashes are under investigation.
