Patriots 6, Jets 3

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Charlie Baumann's two field goal on a chilled, windy day boosted the New England Patriots to a 6-3 victory over the New York Jets Sunday that all but eliminated the Jets from the playoff race.

A Miami victory later Sunday would end the Jets hopes for a wild card spot.

It was the third NFL game this season in which no touchdowns were scored.

Leonard Russell ran for 112 yards to boost the Patriots to 6-9 -- five more victories than New England managed last season. The Jets fell to 7- 8.

The teams exchanged field goals before halftime, Bowman hitting from 45 yards out with six minutes left in the first period and Louie Aguiar making a 23-yarderwith eight minutes to go in the half.

Baumann's eventual game winner was of 41 yards in the third quarter.

The Jets missed two field goals during the contest. Pat Leahy, bothered by a hamstring and hip injury, missed a 23-yard attempt in the first half and then Aguiar missed a short attempt in the second half.
