Albertson's plans purchase of eight Tom Thumb stores

BOISE, Idaho -- Albertson's Inc. said Wednesday it has reached an agreement with Cullum Companies Inc., of Dallas, to purchase eight Tom Thumb stores in Texas.

Six of the stores are located in the Austin metropolitan area, one is located at Longview and the other is located at Tyler.

The transaction, which is subject to review by the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice, is expected to close by mid-January, 1989, the company said. The company declined to release the price of the purchase.

Albertson's, based in Boise, is the nation's sixth-largest operator of food/drug stores and the 17th largest merchandizing company in the United States. It currently operates 487 stores in 17 western and southern states.
