FOXBORO, Mass. -- New England tight end Lin Dawson, who caught two touchdown passes last week, suffered a fractured left ankle in Sunday's 21-10 triumph over the Miami Dolphins and will miss six to eight weeks, the Patriots said.

Dawson was injured while blocking on a run on the next-to-last play of the first quarter.

A spokesman said Dawson's leg will be placed in a long cast.

Dawson's two TD receptions in last week's 30-7 win over the Chicago Bears were his first regular-season scoring catches since 1984.

The seven-year veteran missed the 1986 season with a knee injury suffered on the first play from scrimmage in Super Bowl XX between the Patriots and the Bears in January 1986.

Dawson, who was on injured reserve this season until Sept. 30 with a hamstring problem, has eight catches for 106 yards this year.
