Edwards, a 6-foot-1 guard, was a first-round draft choice of the 76ers out of Cleveland State in 1981.

'This will be the first step in examining players who are potential Charlotte Hornets on a first-hand basis,' Hornets General Manager Carl Scheer said. 'What we expect from this camp is to find some players to whom we might be able to extend an invitation to our rookie and free-agent camp later in the summer.

'Players like Franklin Edwards, who has several years of NBA experience, may be able to fit into our system.'

The camp will include physical examinations and two days of two-a-day tryout sessions.

Other players expected to participate are: Ennis Whately, 6-3, from Alabama who played with Mississipi of the CBA; Fred Cofield, 6-3, Oregon, Rockford; Anthony Bowie, 6-6, Oklahoma, Quad City; Ray Hall, 6-4, Canisius, Quad City; Kevin Gamble, 6-6, Iowa, Quad City; James Blackmon, 6-3, Kentucky, New Jersey.
