COLORADO STATE 41, UTEP 24

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Steve Bartelo rushed for 174 yards for his second straight 100-yard game and scored three touchdowns Saturday to power Colorado State to a 41-24 victory over Texas-El Paso.

John Harvey scored three touchdowns, and Hugo Castellanos kicked a 35-yard field goal for UTEP.

Colorado State opened the scoring on Steve DeLine's 21-yard first-quarter field goal after an 82-yard, nine-play drive.

The Rams moved to a 10-0 lead as Bartelo broke two tackles and scored from 15 yards out.

Harvey's 1-yard TD dive capped an 80-yard, 12-play and brought UTEP to within 10-7.

UTEP tied the score mid-way through the second quarter with Castellanos' 35-yard field goal but the Miners never mounted a serious threat after Colorado State exploded for two more touchdowns before the half.

With 3:52 left in the second quarter, Stouffer found Sanjay Beach wide open over the middle on the 30-yard line. Beach broke a tackle and scampered in for a 47-yard touchddown. With just 21 seconds left in the half, J.D. Brookhart made a diving catch in the corner of the endzone to complete a 9-yard touchdwon pass from Stouffer.

Deline's 36-yard field goal with 9:41 left in the third quarter put the game out of reach.

Harvey scored twice more for the Miners on runs of 1 and 28 yards, but the Rams answered each time with scoring runs by Bartelo of 1 and 14 yards.
