Chinese newspaper: Rubik's Cube can drive you crazy

PEKING -- Rubik's Cube causes personality changes, insomnia, high blood pressure and even insanity, a newspaper said Thursday in an attack on the craze for the brain-teaser that is sweeping China.

'The magic cube disease has started tormenting people,' the Peking Evening News said.

A solemn editor's note accompanying the article declared, 'We would like to remind the readers here that although the magic cube could be good for the exercise of human intelligence, we should not forget that its side effects could bring us harm.'

The newspaper said some people have become more irritable and others could not sleep because they failed to solve Rubik's Cube.

'Also, not a few magic cube fans have a tendency to have higher blood pressure or even become mentally abnormal from playing the magic cube,' it said.

'What is especially serious is that the magic cube has caused many people to lose interest in their work and students to ignore their studies,' the newspaper said.
