AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Isao Aoki of Japan, noted for his unusual putting style, won the Par-3 contest Wednesday that traditionally precedes the Masters Championship.

Aoki had a total of 5-under-par 22 to win by two shots over Gary Player, John Cook and amateur Robert Tway.

Among nine players at 25 were Arnold Palmer, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Kite, Craig Stadler, Jerry Pate, Tommy Aaron, Bruce Devlin, Jay Haas and amateur Jay Sigel.

The winner of the Par-3 receives a trophy.
