U.S. to deport alien Reds advocating anarchy

WASHINGTON, Jan. 10, 1919 (UP)-The Department of Labor through the Bureau of immigration is reinforcing the anti-Bolshevik campaign of the Department of Justice. A drastic order issued by Immigration Commissioner Caminetti at the request of Secretary of Labor Wilson, is being vigorously carried out, Caminetti said.

The procedure of the Department of Labor relative to deportation of aliens is expressed in the following instruction to the immigration service.

First: That we will not arrest, detain or deport any aliens simply for joining the I. W. W.

Second: That we will arrest and detain until we can deport, any alien, whether a member of the I.W.W. or not, who is found advocating or seeking anarchy or the overthrow by force or violence of the government of the United States, or forms of law, or the assassination of public officials, or who is in any other manner subject to deportation under the immigration laws even though he may not commit any overt act.
