The Hottest Celestial Bodies (19 images)
These images of space, galaxies, and stellar swarms were captured by NASA using the Hubble Space Telescope and the Spitzer Space Telescope. The most recent photos were taken with the newly repaired Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) aboard the Hubble. The camera was restored to operation during the STS-125 upgrade servicing mission in May, 2009.
The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope photographed this barred spiral galaxy NGC 1672 more than 60 million light-years away in the direction of the Southern constellation of Dorado, in August of 2005. This composite image contains filters that isolate light from the blue, green, and infrared portions of the spectrum, as well as emission from ionized hydrogen.
